Visiting the Roost:
The roost is located in Kenai, just a few seconds off the Kenai Spur Highway. It is about 12 minutes from Soldotna and a great central location to relax and take day trips to Homer, Seward, or the rest of the Kenai Peninsula.
Fishing-
You are close to fishing (Just 15 minutes away from where the World Record King Salmon was caught in May of 1985.This world-record king salmon, caught by a Soldotna man, Les Anderson, is on display at the Soldotna Visitor Information Center.
The fish weighed in at 97 1/4 lbs before it was mounted for display. The visitor center is also the place to obtain maps and brochures of various thing to enjoy in the Kenai area. Buy your fishing license online from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game website at http://www.adfg.state.ak.us/ with the addition of a king salmon fishing stamp. Also get a free brochure of current fishing regulations provided by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for information on seasons, closures, limits, and methods. Plan your fishing trip with the tide book in hand. Go halibut fishing and clamming at low tides or minus tide. Watch for big tides that carry salmon upstream when you go salmon fishing.
Sightseeing-
There is no other place in the United States where such a magnificent combination of natural beauty can be found. High glacier capped mountains cascading to rugged ocean is a awe striking experience. The most active volcano in the U.S. is situated across the bay from Kenai. Mt. Redoubt blew its top for several weeks in late April of 2009, and threatens to do the same throughout the 2009 tourist season. Kenai also offers outstanding views of Cook Inlet and three active volcanoes of the "ring of fire": Mount Iliamna, Mount Redoubt, and Mount Spur.
Hiking- Many hiking trails are accessible from the roost and Robb's favorite is the trail to Russian River Falls where grizzly bears are often encountered. Also trail around Tustemena Lake and throughout the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge are plentiful.
History- Old town Kenai is a pleasant place to visit and offers a walking tour of the old buildings including the Russian Orthodox Church. Also the old cabins at the Homesteader's Cabin Museum behind the Soldotna visitor center offers some interesting features.
Golf- The Roost is within walking distance of the Kenai Golf Course. The beautiful Kenai Golf Course is the only full-service 18 hole course on the Kenai Peninsula. Chances are you'll catch a glimpse of a sandhill crane family, a mama moose with twins, or a pair of bald eagles. For about $25 you can place golf in the midnight sun.
Baseball-
The roost is located right next to the Kenai Oilers ballfield. The Alaska Baseball League is the foremost collegiate summer baseball league in the country, attracting ball players from the finest college baseball programs in North America. There are currently six teams within the Alaska Baseball League. The Alaska Goldpanners, Anchorage Bucs and Glacier Pilots, Athletes In Action, Matsu Miners and your Peninsula Oilers. The umpires for the ballgames stay at the Roost and call Robb's Roost their favorite place to relax between double headers.
Wildlife-
The Kenai is home to many species of wildlife. Bears, eagles, caribou, dall sheep, and of course the local moose. Keep your eyes open, you never know where you might find this elusive creature. The last one I saw was at a busstop waiting for the bus.

Would you like fries with that?
